Full Property Softscape Overhaul on a Neighborhood Landmark Home

This was one of the biggest softscape jobs we've taken on to date. A beautiful, character-filled home that's clearly a staple in the neighborhood - but the landscaping wasn't keeping up with the house itself. The old natural mulch had run its course, the beds lacked definition, and several areas of the property needed new plant material to really pull everything together.

We went with black mulch across all the beds, front and back. The contrast it creates against the green plant material and the warm stucco exterior is hard to beat. Fresh black mulch also gives the beds a clean, finished look that natural mulch just can't match after it fades. Pair that with bronze aluminum edging that we ran along the front beds - which picks up on the copper downspouts on the house - and suddenly the whole front of the property has a cohesive, intentional feel to it.

On the plant side, we installed a juniper hedge along the front and a row of 7-foot balled-and-burlapped arborvitae to create structure and privacy where it was needed. The junipers bring a nice texture and color variation alongside the hydrangeas that were already there and blooming beautifully. Out back, we freshened up the existing beds with the same black mulch treatment and ran clean edging to separate the lawn from the planting areas throughout the entire property.

The lawn areas that needed attention got fixed up as well. Bed maintenance and mulching go hand in hand with keeping a property looking sharp long-term, and this job is a good example of what happens when you address everything at once rather than piece by piece. Every part of the property - front, sides, and back - got the same level of attention.
